Otto Porter was recently able to receive a 4 year, $106M contract. Many suggest Porter does not deserve a lot of money. That is both true and false. That contract is an All-Star type contract and Otto Porter is not an All-Star…yet. Once Porter becomes an All-Star, then he can deserve that contract. Although Porter does not deserve that much money now, he is still underrated by lots around the league. Porter was 20th in the league last season in TPA. He had a TPA of 205.94 and was ahead of guys like Anthony Davis, Gordon Hayward, Paul George, and Kyrie Irving. Porter was healthy and played in 80 out of 82 games, averaged 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He shot 51% from the field and 83% from the charity stripe. Porter led all small forwards in 3PT field goal percentage, shooting 43.4%. He was ranked 3rd among SF in FG%. Obviously, he was a good shooter and had an offensive efficiency rating of 110. The only downside is that he only averaged 13.4 PPG while playing 32.6 minutes per game. Porter can develop into an All-Star and is a great fit to stay in Washington. The Wizards will most likely match the offer sheet as Porter fits into Washington’s system perfect. This was not a bad move by the Nets to give Porter an offer sheet as the Nets know no big free agent will want to play for them. The Nets could start to build around Porter and have him and D’angelo Russell as the face of the franchise. All in all, if Porter shapes into the All-Star some people think he can be, he deserves this max deal.
